In a statement released by her parents Tony and Gail Karpani, the actress was said to have passed away after a long battle with a chronic illness. They described her death as unexpected but peaceful, asking for privacy as the family grieavves.
The announcement came days after Karpani's sudden passing on December 7th. Since the statement was made public, tributes from colleagues, friends, and fans have poured in remembering her warmth, talent, and resilience.
While the family has not disclosed further medical details, Karpani had previously spoken openly about her health struggles. In 2021, she revealed that she had been rushed to hospital after experiencing severe abdominal pain that had been building for some time.
At the time, the actress explained she spent several days in intensive care before being transferred to a surgical ward. Sharing her experience online weeks later, she urged her followers to take their health seriously and not ignore warning signs.
I was admitted to emergency with acute abdominal pain just over a week ago and spent a few days in the ICU, she wrote later adding that the ordeal taught her to listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Karpani admitted the pain had existed long before she sought medical help, saying she had pushed through it rather than resting.
She described the situation as a consequence of not listening to her body and allowing herself to become seriously unwell.
Two years later, she again spoke candidly about her health when she underwent eye surgery. After a lifetime of extreme short-sightedness, she shared her decision to have a fakic intraocular lens replacement with fans.

It is with great sadness that Tony and Gail Karpani announced that their beautiful daughter, beloved Australian actress Rachel Karpani, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away after a long battle with chronic illness. The statement read, "Throughout her career, Karpani became a familiar face on Australian television. She played Claudia Selini on Home and Away, but gained widespread recognition as Jodie Fountain on Mloud's Daughters, appearing on the series from 2001 to 2009.
Her work extended beyond Australian drama with roles in NCIS, Los Angeles, and films, including The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee and Hating Allison Ashley, showcasing her versatility as an actress.
Following the news of her death, former co-star Bridey Carter shared a heartfelt tribute. "In love and respect for our beautiful Ra, rest in peace, our beautiful girl, the baby of our Mloud's daughter's family," she wrote, expressing her sorrow and sympathy for the Karpani family.
Carter went on to say that the loss felt deeply unfair, adding that Karpani's spirit, humor, intelligence, and generosity would never be forgotten. "We miss you, Ra." She wrote, "May your blessed spirit rest in peace.
